Description:
"Providing extrinsic motivation like money or praise for an intrinsically satisfying activity can undermine people's enjoyment and interest- their intrinsic motivation- for the activity" (Huffman, Dowdell, & Sanderson, 2018, p. 301). While extrinsic motivation can sometimes be effective under the right conditions, it may not be long-lasting.
Instructions:
Step 1: Respond to the following prompt:
One of the challenges students face in their educational journey can be staying motivated. Difficult or "boring" courses, struggles at home, or challenges trying to balance roles and responsibilities, students can lose motivation if it is not intrinsic. How can you restructure any elements of your personal, work, or school life to increase intrinsic versus extrinsic motivation to successfully reach your goals?
Step 2: Read other students' posts and respond to at least two other students. Incorporate personal experience, if appropriate, to help support or debate other students' posts. If differences of opinion occur, debate the issues and provide examples to support opinions.
In your responses to your peers’ posts, be concrete, make suggestions for change, including strategies, movements, obstacles, and so forth. Outside-the-box thinking and debate are encouraged.
The use of outside resources (your textbook or other academic source) is required. Be sure to cite any outside sources in current APA format.
