Direct regulation/command-and-control, science-based decision-making, market solutions, sustainability planning, and collaborative management are seen as critical tools for executing environmental policy. With these tools in mind, discuss the following:

1. Select a specific environmental issue discussed in the Vig and Kraft (e.g., water quality, air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, toxic and hazardous wastes, natural resources). Briefly introduce the issue and identify the main political actors involved (2-3 paragraphs, refer to Think Piece #1 for ideas).
2. Explain which of the above tools have been applied to your selected issue. Describe the tools' goals and their potential pitfalls/downsides. Has the tool(s) been useful at addressing the problem? Why/why not?
3. Describe at least two tools of those remaining above that were not discussed in association with your issue, and explain their goals and potential pitfalls (you can discuss less than two in the case that your analyze four or more tools in association with your issue). Why have they not been applied in your problem, and would they be useful and feasible in future efforts?
