Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Week 9. This week the discussion focuses on land use and applied management. In particular, how do we manage watersheds in a way that balances human needs for freshwater with the needs of freshwater ecosystems? Are these two "worlds" separate? Which should take precedence? How should decisions about land use and practices be made?
Answering these questions is where you start to apply what you've learned in this course, and others, along with your own experiences and ideas. If, during your discussions, you find that there are differences of opinion within the group please do your best to try and understand each person's position. That doesn't mean you have to agree, but by trying to understand where different views come from you are better able to find common ground in searching for solutions.
If you're able to listen to differing opinions you'll find that often you're trying to get to the same place, just taking different paths. It doesn't always work that way, but more often than not you can find a way to come to some sort of agreement.
