Your word count for PART A must be more than 300 words.

  1. Regarding the properties of water: Explain covalent bonds and hydrogen bonds, why are they important? What is significant about water at 4 degrees Centigrade?
  2. Through Figure 2.5 and Table 2.1, what can we learn about freshwater and the accessible quantities available to humans? What are the oldest sources of water?
  3. What is a watershed? How is it delineated? (How are the borders determined?)
  4. Explain Figure 2.22 and explain how it relates to Figure 2.25.
  5. Explain the following terminology: Headwaters, Tributaries, Confluence and Thalweg. And, in relation to river morphology explain Figure 3.4.
  6. Explain what a river discharge is? What is the equation? What is the measurement? In the US which water agency is responsible for river flow data?
