DIRECTIONS:  You should have three posts minimum.  You must respond once to the prompt in a comprehensive manner (by 11:59pm Wednesday) and twice to your classmates in a substantive manner (by 11:59pm Sunday).  See the Syllabus for instructor expectations on comprehensive and substantive posting.  Remember, your posts should be authored entirely by you.  Posts are due by dates listed in the Printable Due Dates sheet.

PROMPT:  According to the NIH, 60 to 70 million people in the United States are affected by a digestive disorder/disease. This lead to 21.7 million hospitalization in 2010. In this discussion we will investigate these diseases and disorders.

RESEARCH: Find a digestive disorder/disease that you find of interest. You should be able to describe the cause of the disorder, as well as the symptoms, lifestyle, treatment, and prognosis of an individual with the disorder. If you want to "claim" your disorder, you may write a post with your disorder as the first line of your post. Your claim will NOT count as one of your three required posts. You may NOT use the same disorder as another student.

INITIAL PROMPT: Use the name of the disorder as the first line of your post.  Write as though you are a patient that is suffering from this digestive disorder/disease. Describe the  cause of the disorder, the symptoms, lifestyle, and prognosis. Remember, you may NOT use the same disorder as another student.

REPLY TO A CLASSMATE:  Respond to a classmate as though you are a medical professional.  Provide treatments and/or explain the long term issues of the disorder.

REPLY TO ANOTHER CLASSMATE:  Respond to a second classmate as another patient, medical professional, or student.  You may ask a question regarding the disorder or provide additional treatment.
